Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick Bar

Luna bills itself as the whole nutrition bar for women, "with (70%) organic ingredients, vitamins to meet the special needs of our bodies, and flavors we love, LUNA makes finding nourishment a bit simpler." I picked up a Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick Bar at the grocery store recently, so I could take a look for myself.

Luna Protein BarsWe love Luna Bars around here and I keep them on hand for when the afternoon munchies threaten to slow me down during the midst of a crazy day. The Luna Protein Bar (Chocolate Peanut Butter) really rocked my world, so I was curious to see if the other varieties would be equally as delicious.

Like the Chocolate Peanut Butter variety, this Chocolate Cherry Luna Protein Bar had a chewy texture. In addition, almonds and cherries were scattered throughout the chewy nougat, which made for a delightful texture and flavor profile.

Luna Protein Bar (Chocolate Peanut Butter)We already have quite a few reviews of Luna Bars, but I had yet to try any of the Luna Protein Bars, so I grabbed the Chocolate Peanut Butter variety the last time I was at the grocery store.

Overall, the texture was much chewier than I was expecting. It was like a tootsie roll/ taffy/ Milky Way sans caramel hybrid coated in a thin layer of chocolate that melts in your mouth, encasing the chewy nougat center. If you don't mind exercising your chompers, then you will surely enjoy this.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 45 grams
Calories: 190
Total Fat: 9 grams, 14%
Saturated Fat: 4 grams, 20%
Sodium: 210 mg, 9%
Carbohydrates: 19 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 12%
Sugar: 13 grams
Protein: 12 grams

The tried and true combo of chocolate and peanut butter prevails. Crunchy peanuts are dispersed throughout the bar, providing a welcomed textural variety of sorts. Furthermore, each bar has a few random soy rice crisps dispersed throughout the chewy nougat that provides a random speck of crunch here and there.

Each 45 gram Luna Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bar provides 190 calories, 9 grams of total fat, 4 grams of saturated fat (14% and 20% of the daily value), 3 grams of fiber, 13 grams of sugars and 12 grams of protein.

Luna Cookie Dough Protein Bar Review

Luna Cookie Dough Protein BarWhen I saw the front of the packaging for Luna Cookie Dough Protein Bar promising 12 grams of satiating protein plus calcium, folic acid, vitamin D, and iron, I knew that one of these bars would be going home with me. Luna further describes this bar as having chocolate chip and cookie dough pieces swirled in soft nougat with a flourish of vanilla.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 45 grams
Calories: 180
Total Fat: 6 grams, 9%
Saturated Fat: 4 grams, 20%
Sodium: 230 mg, 10%
Carbohydrates: 21 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 12%
Sugars: 15 grams
Protein: 12 grams

I was amazed that this really tastes like cookie dough. The bar itself is comprised of a milk chocolate shell and an inner filling of chewy, rich "cookie dough". One bar kept me going for a while (probably thanks to the protein and bit of fiber), and I was perfectly happy after having this treat.

Each 45 gram Luna Cookie Dough Protein Bar provides 180 calories, 9% of the daily value for total fat, 20% of the DV for saturated fat, 3 grams of fiber, 15 grams of sugar, and 12 grams of protein.

Luna Peanut Butter Chocolate CookieWhen was the last time that the packaging of a product misled you and the moment that you took a bite of the creation within, you began to wonder what the marketing people were thinking. Well, this happened to me last night when I dug into a Luna Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 40 grams (1 pkg)
Calories: 150
Total Fat: 6 grams, 9%
Saturated Fat: 1 gram, 5%
Sodium: 170 mg, 7%

LUNA Cookie, according to the website, "is a temptingly soft, all-natural, baked whole grain snack full of good stuff like fiber and omega-3s from flax." There is a chunky chocolate bar and a group of whole peanuts on the packaging, yet there are no chunks in the batter, unless you count oats. Perhaps if there would have been chocolate chips or nuts in the batter, I would have been sold, but for now I am just satisfied. It's like a smooth, soft, peanut butter-y cookie bar, but they should take the name chocolate out of the title, because a teeny drizzle of chocolate atop the overwhelmingly peanut butter consumed base, does not merit a spot in the description.

Just like the Luna Chocolate Mint Cookie, this Luna creation is very chewy, reminding me of a very dense oatmeal cookie with peanut butter thrown into the batter.

I spotted Luna Cookies at the grocery store and decided to try one. There were three flavor possibilities - Berry Pomegranate, Chocolate Mint, and Peanut Butter Chocolate - but only the first two were available at the particular store where I was shopping, so I settled on the Chocolate Mint flavor, eager to see if this cookie lived up to the Luna reputation.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (44 grams)
Calories: 150
Total Fat: 4.5 grams, 7%
Saturated Fat: 2 grams, 10%
Sodium: 125 mg, 5%
Protein: 10 grams
Carbohydrates: 22 grams
Fiber: 7 grams, 28%
Sugar: 10 grams
Price: $1.89 ea.
I opened the package and examined the cookie. It was thick and chocolatey, with a drizzle of white icing on the front (I'm not sure why they chose to put a picture of a chocolate bar on the front). I bit into it expecting nothing but chocolate mint goodness, and was somewhat surprised to find that the first flavor that hit me was a sort of prune-y one. However, as I chewed more, the chocolate and mint hit, and it became much more satisfying. One thing that struck me about this was how chewy it was; I have to say, it was almost too chewy - it took a lot of work to get it down! Still, it was satisfying and dessert-like.
