When I find myself in a pinch and needing a quick meal that is substantial and still fairly healthy, I usually microwave an Amy's Burrito and throw it over a bed of chopped romaine. That's it ... and it couldn't be more delicious. I was shopping at Kroger the other day, and reaching for my back-up Amy's Burrito to store in my freezer, when I spotted The Old City Café Veggie Burger & Bean Burrito for only $1.69. Decisions, decisions - this was about $1.00 cheaper than Amy's, and in the end frugality got the best of me and I reached for this previously untried brand instead.
After a mere 2 minutes in the microwave, I was ready to dig in. The ends of the burrito got to be just a tad on the tough side (as with most microwave burritos), but I have most definitely seen worse. Other than that, the tortilla remained soft, with no tough or crunchy areas, although unfortunately, the appearance is reminiscent of that repulsively unhealthy Taco Bell meat mixture. But, don't let the appearance turn you off, because you will bite into a most flavorful burrito with a slightly spicy kick to it, full of healthy ingredients and wrapped within a delightfully doughy and soft wheat tortilla. The closer you get to the ends of the burrito, the more tortilla that you have in each bite - but that's not really a bad thing because the outer tortilla is pretty yum.
