SoyJoy Bar Reviews have not been positive and they not something I would normally buy, but when I saw that they were "new and improved" I decided to give them another shot. I picked up the Apple Walnut flavor, which SoyJoy describes as, "a perfect balance of sweet, sour, tart and nutty."
My chief complaints with SoyJoy bars were that they are hard, tasteless and dry BUT I have to admit that this Apple Walnut variety is much more moist than it's predecessors. It still looks the same though, and so I was a little apprehensive about what it would taste like, but thankfully, these all natural bars deliver on this aspect too. It is slightly nutty at first, but as you take a bite or 2 more, the apple bits and sweetness shine through more. I liked it, but from the description I expected some sour and tart in it - there was none. Still I was happy with the taste. It feels so weird saying that I like a SoyJoy Bar because I have cursed them bitterly in the past, but there you have it and I'll say it again - the SoyJoy Apple Walnut Bar is good - still small at 30 grams, but tasty.
Each bar provides 140 calories from 6 grams of total fat, 2.5 grams of which is saturated fat (10% and 11% of the daily value), 3 grams of fiber (12% of the DV), 10 grams of sugars and 4 grams of protein.
I've tried SoyJoy Bars before, and I had the same reaction Tanya expressed in her SoyJoy review - ew! What the hell am I eating?! The ones of these I've had before were dry, tasteless, and just all-around disgusting (including the SoyJoy Peanut Chocolate Chip Bar that Marina reviewed). However, I decided to give them another shot - I mean, there has to be at least one tasty flavor around, right?! So I picked up a SoyJoy Blueberry Bar amd hoped for the best.
This bar kind of surprised me. Sure, it was DRY and oddly chewy - I can't quite tell what the company is thinking with their dense, over-baked bars. Still, the flavor was pretty ... good
! It tasted like a chewy, dense, soy-y blueberry muffin or cake. Interesting... I definitely liked this WAY better than the flavors I've had before.
Each SMALL 30 gram SoyJoy Blueberry Bar provides 140 calories, 9% of the daily value for total fat and 15% of the DV for saturated fat. There is also 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 12 grams of sugars and 4 grams of protein.
SoyJoy Bars first got reviewed in May 2007, and it got a lowly 2 out of 5. The 3 flavors covered then were Apple, Berry, and Mango Coconut. Since then SoyJoy has come out with many more flavors and has become a prevalent item on shelves. In light of its seeming popularity, I decided to revisit the SoyJoy bars and try a dessert flavor instead. Two of my favorite flavors or chocolate and peanuts, so I figured if anything would win me over, it would be this combination in the SoyJoy Peanut Chocolate Chip Bar.
The bar is about 3.5 inches in length and about the circumference of my middle finger. It may be lower in calories than other bars, but that's because it's small. The smell of the bar is a little peculiar, like something overly sweet, although there are no artificial colors, flavors, or hydrogenated oils. The taste of the bar was disappointing. Overly dry with no real taste of chocolate or peanuts. The most prevalent taste for me was the real raisin chunks in the bar. Oh SoyJoy, I do not know how you're still in business because your bars (for lack of a better word) suck
! I did not feel like I had a satisfying snack.
