Bread is something that I eat regularly - I make lots of sandwiches throughout the week, and for dinner, I usually have a slice on hand. The other day, I decided that instead of my usual sandwich made with slices of Pepperidge Farms Natural Honey Flax Bread or Rudi's Organic Multigrain Oat Bread, I needed to switch it up and decided that I would make a veggie pita. Of course, I needed a few ingredients, so I headed to the grocery store, where Sara Lee 100% Whole Wheat Mr. Pita caught my eye.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 pita (33 grams)
Calories: 80
Total Fat: 0%
Sodium: 170 mg, 7%
Carbohydrates: 17 grams
Fiber: 2 grams, 9%
Sugars: 1 gram
Protein: 3 grams

The nutrition profile is what really drew me in. Each 33 gram pocket provides 80 calories, no fat, 7% of the daily value for sodium, 9% of the DV for fiber, 1 gram of sugar and 3 grams of protein.Furthermore, the ingredient list is short, containing whole wheat flour, water and 2% or less of just a few minor odds and ends.

One of the luxuries of these pockets is that they are perforated, so there is no hassle in trying to get them opened up for all of the goodies you wish to put inside. But these Mr. Pita pitas were somewhat dry and thin, so while they may be good to make quesadillas, these flimsy pockets are not useful for making anything else - certainly not a robust pita stuffed with beans & veggies. Even the edges fall apart somewhat easily. To sum it all up, Mr. Pita reminded me of a thinner, slightly dry version of Kangaroo Whole Wheat Salad Pockets.
