Popcorn is my vice. I love it, I have my own popcorn maker and it's a treat I enjoy a few times a week. I like popping my own and adding toppings (like Kernel Season's Caramel Popcorn Seasoning), but every now and then, the convenience of microwave popcorn calls to me. I have some friends who are runners, and they always get the coolest swag bags from the events. One thing they got for this most recent race was a bag of Newman's Own Organics Light Butter Flavored Pop's Corn Organic Microwave Popcorn. Knowing how much I adore popcorn, my friend Karen generously gave me her sample.
I popped up a bag and sampled a handful at first. It definitely didn't taste as artificially buttery as Jolly Time 100 Calorie Healthy Pop Popcorn Minis. But of course, there's partially hydrogenated oils in Jolly Time, whereas this popcorn has just Organic Popcorn, Organic Palm Oil, Salt, Natural Butter Flavor [contains milk], Annatto (for color), and Vitamin E (to preserve freshness). And, it was just as delicious. Not only that, but I didn't feel like I liked that it wasn't overly greasy.
Salsa can be used for so many purposes - dipping chips, adding to tacos, and even topping salads. While at my friends' house for tacos the other day, I discovered Newman's Own Black Bean & Corn Salsa and I was amazed and delighted at this tasty new find.
The first thing to note is the wholesome ingredients: diced tomatoes, water, black beans, corn, yellow bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, red bell peppers, green bell peppers, distilled vinegar, salt, spices, chipotle pepper, garlic, and xanthan gum. SImple, easily recognizable ingredients. This salsa adds the spice and corn-bean flavor to whatever you add it to. Check out Karen's Black Bean Salsa Burritos and the Tofu Scramble Breakfast made spicier with this Newman's Own salsa. And the funny "Salute to Paul Newman" for this amazing salsa.
