Nature Valley Oats 'n Honey Crunchy Granola Bar is described as, 100% natural bars, full of classic crunch and whole grain goodness, making them a completely natural energy boost ... bite into one anytime, anywhere for an invigorating treat of quality whole grain. Well, the combination of honey, brown sugar syrup, and oats sounded hearty and satisfying, so I picked up a pack (which has 1 serving of 2 bars), for just 75 cents.
I opened the package and examined the contents. What I found were two crunchy densely packed rectangles, composed of an oaty matrix and laced with the honey and brown sugar listed above. I broke off a piece and took a bite. Mmmm ... the flavor was mellow and nice - and I'm not a big honey person. I must say that it was very sweet though, but for some reason I didn't mind. It was super crunchy as well.
Each 42-gram 2 bar serving of Nature Valley Oats 'n Honey Crunchy Granola Bars provides 190 calories, 6 grams of total fat (9% of the daily value), 3% of the DV for saturated fat, 2 grams of fiber, 12 grams of sugars, and 4 grams of protein.
I like peanuts and I like granola bars, so when I saw Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Peanut Granola Bar available at the cafe downstairs in my building for only 75 cents, I snapped one up right away. The images of peanuts on the orange and light brown package were enticing, as was the description from the website which reads, "Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Peanut Granola Bars offer a perfect balance of savory nuts and sweet granola. Each bar is rich with all-natural ingredients, bursting with nuts, and dipped in a creamy peanut-butter coating."
I opened up the bar and found a peanuty matrix dipped in a peanut butter coating. The smell was delicious, and I took a bite right away. It was good ... very good, delicious, even
. With peanuts as the first ingredient, this bar was a tasty peanut grand slam. It was chewy and crunchy at the same time, and it really satisfied me. It wasn't too sweet, either, and it tasted quite 'authentic' meaning I could taste the components.
I have been a fan of the Nature Valley Granola Bars for a long time. They are an all natural way to kick a sweet craving! So although I'm not a big fan of "100 calorie packages" when my mom saw these Nature Valley Granola Bites, she knew I would want to try them, so she picked up the Oats 'N Honey variety for me.
The picture on the package provides a genuine representation of the product. The flavor is subtly sweet and the texture is similar to a crunchy oatmeal cookie. The granola and crisp rice add a special element to the product's consistency. They are a bit lighter in color than regular Oats 'N Honey granola bars and the honey taste is more prominent in the bites. I got 12 bites that are about the size of a nickel, in my 0.67 ounce package and that was not a lot - just a handful. And therein lies my problem with 100 calorie packs - very little substance.
