I was at Whole Foods the other day stocking up on deli meats, cereal, and yogurt when I noticed that Nasoya Tofu products were on sale. Curious, I picked up a package of the Nasoya Lite Silken Tofu to examine it. The first thing that struck me about this tofu (which is certified organic by the way), was how big it was - this is some hefty stuff! I've been burned before in buying a block of tofu that I thought was all good stuff and turned out to be filled with copious amounts of tofu water instead - NOT true with this; the whole package is crammed with the tofu.
My eyes then moved to the nutrition facts, and I was quite pleased with what I saw. One serving, or 1/5 of the huge package, provides just 30 calories, 1 gram of fat, 3% of the daily value for sodium, 6 grams of protein and no carbohydrates. That serving is also fortified with quite a few vitamins and minerals, including 84% of the DV for iron. Wowza - the entire block is just 150 calories and provides 30 grams of protein.
