I have been waiting to try some of the Leclerc Praeventia products for a while now, especially after trying the delicious Leclerc Praeventia Dark Chocolate Chip 70% Cocoa with Red Wine Extract Cookies. The opportunity came up on a recent trip to Target, where I finally spotted a box of Leclerc Praeventia Almond & Apple Bars on sale for $2.69.
Leclerc Praeventia products are made from ingredients with well known benefits according to their website. In the case of this Almond & Apple Bar, it contains inulin, a prebiotic dietary fiber which promotes digestive health, in addition to green tea extract and dark chocolate (70% cocoa), ingredients known for their polyphenols (antioxidants) content.
Well, enough reading about the product, it was time for a taste test and I was not disappointed. Oh the bar is so delightful, but it's barely more than a few bite-fuls! Each "pouch" (as Leclerc describes their wrappers) contains 2 "bars" they say. I say, that it's really just ONE bar broken into 2 pieces, but as I mentioned, it's really tasty. Each granola-like bar is chewy and full of body, with bits of dehydrated apple and almonds that are somewhat discernible. The overall sweetness of the bar is just about perfect and the prominent dark chocolate coating on the bottom takes each bite to a new, delicious level.
I had such a fabulous experience with Leclerc Praeventia Dark Chocolate Chip 70% Cocoa with Red Wine Extract Cookies that I got fooled into thinking that all of Leclerc's cookies would send my taste buds on a roller coaster ride of excitement, so I purchased Leclerc Praeventia Orange Zest Cookies With Green Tea Extract.
Leclerc Praeventia cookies come in a box which contains 7 portion appropriated pouches. The cookies in each pouch provide 140 calories, 12% of your daily fiber requirements, 40% of the recommended daily dose of prebiotics fiber and 70 mg of polyphenols (antioxidants) per serving.
On first bite, these cookies are quite good. The base of these treats is comparable to a crunchy oatmeal cookie, while the flavorful orange zest permeates throughout each bite of these little treats. But, after a few bites, you will be questioning this product. There is a weird almost chalky-like aftertaste that I cannot fully explain. I am not sure if it is the green tea extract or simply the combination of flavors. This is simply not as good as Leclerc Praeventia Dark Chocolate Chip 70% Cocoa with Red Wine Extract Cookies.
As I was wondering down the snack isle of the grocery store today, I was on the search for something completely different (because that is always more fun). I was about to settle for an oldie, but goodie: Annie's All Natural Honey Bunny Grahams, when I spotted a brand spankin' new product on my local Target's shelves: Leclerc Praeventia Dark Chocolate Chip 70% Cocoa with Red Wine Extract Cookies (what a name). There is a Zest of Orange with Green Tea Extract flavor as well, but my love for chocolate made the decision for me.
There are so many health claims on this 7.4oz box that I am not sure how to convey every stimulating statement to you without setting out to write a book. First off all, there are 10 grams of whole grain and 4 grams of fiber per 30 gram pouch (each box contains 7 little heart filled bags). The flavor is so intense and delightful that the seemingly small serving may actually satisfy even the biggest volume eaters.
Each heart shaped, crispy chocolate cookie is a compacted mixture of whole rolled oats, brown sugar, enriched and whole oat flour, visible mini dark chocolate chips and a few other nutritious attributes. Furthermore, the 70% dark chocolate and red wine extract offer your body a tasty source of powerful antioxidants. The texture is similar to that of a Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bar, which is certainly not bad, just unexpected. The cookie tends to be a bit crumbly and slightly dry at first; but melds into a perfect concoction once it hits your mouth. The dark chocolate flavor is extremely concentrated and resembles pure dark chocolate (which is utterly amazing).
