I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray (made with Extra Virgin Olive Oil)

Do you use oil sprays? it's rare that there's not at least one around. I usually buy a store-brand olive oil spray, but I was recently sent I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (Olive Oil) Spray to try out.

For me, one of the main uses of a buttery spray will be with popcorn. It's rare that I'll actually use melted butter, since I make popcorn on the stove-top a few nights a week - and that would just be too much added fat. So last night, I settled in to watch one of my favorites shows on the tele, The Good Wife, with a bowl of popcorn sprayed liberally with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (Olive Oil) Spray and sprinkled with salt.

One thing this buttery spray gave the popcorn that my old stand-by store-brand spray did not, is the actual taste of butter ... surprisingly similar to what it would have tasted like if I had used melted butter. I really liked this - and there are no calories in 5 sprays (a "0" on a nutrition label really means less than 4 calories).

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Stick Review

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter StickIn my baked goods, I've stuck with 100% real butter religiously. It's such a simple ingredient that I've never been comfortable with the idea of baking with anything else. Still, the saturated fat in butter-regardless of its naturalness-is indeed bad for you. And since I had a coupon for it, I decided to put away my prejudice and try I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Stick.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 tablespoon (14 grams)

The first thing to understand about these sticks is that they have the same amount of calories and total fat as regular butter. So what's the draw? As the website proclaims "They contain a blend of nutritious oils, including soybean and canola, so I Can't Believe It's Not Butter! Sticks have 50% less saturated fat than butter, no trans fat and provide an excellent source of omega-3 ALA per serving." O-kaaay. But what about the taste and baking performance? First, I tried this by itself on a piece of bread.

Unsurprisingly, it tasted just like butter. One thing I noticed, however, is that these sticks are a lot softer at room temperature than butter. They almost start to melt at room temperature, something that proved to be problematic with chocolate chip cookies. I had to chill the batter before baking the cookies, and had to make sure to keep the dough cold as I worked with it. For purposes where I melted the margarine first, such as brownies, it worked just as well as butter and tasted just the same.

I Cant Believe Its Not Butter Fat Free Spread Review

I Cant Believe Its Not Butter Fat Free SpreadThere is already a review of I Cant Believe Its Not Butter Fat Free Spread here on Iateapie.net. I tried it and had the same ill feelings that Lizabeth did. Still the lure of a 5 calorie butter made me go back for round two. This time around, I am singing a different tune.

Gone is the weird 'water' that pooled around the top of my last tub. Yes, the artificial yellow coloring is still the same, but I can look past that. The flavor seemed much different - in a good way. This butter spread seemed thicker and the butter flavor seemed more pronounced, and more salty than last time (not overly so, but in a good way). It was actually pretty similar in taste to real butter. Looking at the packaging, I noticed that the packaging was also different. This new tub has a slightly different label than I remember. Maybe they reformulated their product along with the new packaging (although there was no marketing that stated this).

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter*** This review {here}has been updated after trying the re-formulated product**

Dear I Can't Believe It's Not Butter: I have tried your "original" version, which I thought was okay. Certainly, no one would believe it's butter, but kudos on the marketing strategy. Recently, I decided to try your Fat Free Spread. I was enamored by the fact that it was only 5 calories per tablespoon and that bright yellow container is so alluring. But things took a turn for the worse when opened the container.

Everything about this product is unappealing. The color looks dyed, and the texture is more akin to a watery mayonnaise than any other spread that I've used. When I spread this on a piece of toast, it made the toast soggy but it just stood, lurking there, taunting me to try it. I did, and like the fake looking color, the taste is also worse than fake butter/ margarine. It is indescribably awful. I imagine this is what spreading melted plastic on a piece of bread would taste like.
