One thing I don't have to worry about, is getting enough servings of fruits in my diet daily. I love fresh fruits, but I also like some of the more portable, vacuum packed offerings. I like the various combination of fruit as well, so I decided to try Del Monte Fruit Naturals Hawaiian Style Medley.
The Hawaiian style medley consists of orange, guava, and pineapple in an extra light passion fruit-flavored syrup. The passion fruit syrup had a nice, tropical sweetness that complemented the flavors of the fruit pieces. Oranges are available any time of the year, but I liked the little slices in the cup. Pineapple is a fun fruit that practically never goes wrong, but the best part of this mix was the unorthodox guava, a flavorful fruit that reminds me of lying on a beach.
While I know canned fruit cannot compare to fresh fruit, I am glad that this is alternative is available for when fresh isn't available. I like canned fruit as a quick on the go snack, to amp up my salads, as well as in baking. One of my favorites to buy is Del Monte Lite Apricot Halves - which has a pop-top design, so I don't need to fiddle with a can opener.
The apricot halves were intact and good-sized with a nice and sweet taste. Unlike regular canned fruit, these apricots were in extra light syrup simply made with less sugar and without any artificial sweeteners, which results in 1/3 fewer calories compared with apricots in heavy syrup.
A 1/2 cup serving of Del Monte Lite Apricot Halves provides 60 calories, 1 gram of dietary fiber and 15 grams of sugar. Each serving also provides 30% DV vitamin A. The result was a juice which complemented the apricots without overwhelming the natural fruit taste. The ingredients are simply apricots, water & sugar. I paid $1.25 for a 15 ounce can of Del Monte Lite Apricot Halves at Target.
