Since it's all Yogurt Reviews this week, I stocked up at the supermarket on both old favorites and new (to me) brands, like YoCrunch Yopa Authentic Greek Non-Fat Yogurt.
I picked up the Black Cherries variety, which is made with natural ingredients, according to the label. The fruit gel is on the bottom so after some vigorous mixing, I got to tasting. It's quite sweet and I love the chunks of cherries throughout which contrasted nicely with the smooth, thick & creamy texture. The granola gave it an added crunch - but really, how can I go back to plain old "9 Grain Granola" after I've had the Alpina ReVive Mango Non-Fat Greek Yogurt with Tropical Chia and Goji) - their granola includes cashews, pumpkin or sunflower seeds, chia seeds, flax seed, coconut flakes, and freeze dried pineapple.
Each 5.3 ounce container of Yopa Authentic Greek Black Cherries Non-Fat Yogurt (with granola) provides 180 calories, 13 grams of protein and 17 grams of sugars (sugar, fructose, cherry juice concentrate). The ingredients list does seem to reflect the "natural" claim made on the label.
While I like the flavor of Yopa Black Cherry Greek Yogurt, I'm not too thrilled with the amount of sugars. It's about standard for most Greek yogurts, but it's still quite a bit, especially since recommendations for added sugar in the diet is about 30 grams for women and 45 grams for men.
