I've been cutting out gluten recently to see if it might be responsible for some of my stomach malcontent. Meat obviously doesn't have gluten in it, but I am a big fan of veggie burgers too. Unfortunately, most of them are not gluten free. That's why I was so excited to find the Franklin Farms Veggiburger. This burger is gluten-free and made from all natural ingredients.
I picked up the Original Franklin Farms Veggiburger which turned out to be quite tasty. It doesn't have a hugely overpowering flavor, and might be considered to be somewhat bland by some, but I prefer to say that it acts like a subtly flavored canvas for enhancement with vegetables & condiments - mustard, ketchup, even some Fage Greek Yogurt subbing in for sour cream. The texture is just chewy enough, and especially crispy if you prepare it on a pan or grill. And you can actually see the veggies in the burger!
Those wholesome ingredients in the Franklin Farms Original Veggiburger include, vegetables (mushrooms, carrots, corn, onions, red peppers), soy flour, water, egg whites, isolated soy protein, non-hydrogenated soybean oil, tamari sauce (water, soybeans, salt), salt, rice starch, maltodextrin, cultured dextrose, sodium alginate and ascorbic acid. I love seeing a veggie burger where the first ingredients are - gasp - vegetables!
Each patty provides 100 calories, 3% of the daily value for total fat, 16% of the DV for sodium, 12% of the DV for fiber, 3 grams of sugar, 12 grams of protein, 20% of the DV for vitamin A, and 100% for vitamin C.
I bought a 4-pack of Franklin Farms Original Veggiburger on sale for $2.99, and after I finished this, I went back and bought the Portabella variety - the fantastic nutrition facts and decent taste made me want more!
