Attention all split pea lovers; you must go buy Amy's Organic Light Sodium Low Fat Split Pea Soup now! The organic peas, onion, celery, carrots and basil merge together to create a dark green bowl of savory goodness. The flavor has a very homemade feel to it. Furthermore, the texture is the traditional mushy consistency with a touch of crunch from the cooked chopped onions dispersed throughout. The ingredients create a smooth soup, which is not too watery or too thick, but just right. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the all natural flavor of this split pea delight, some may not find it salty enough. However, if you take the time to enjoy the simple combination of basil, garlic, a bit of sea salt and other pure spices, your body will thank you. Light sodium, low fat, great taste and a dieter's dreams done right!
The nutrition panel is the absolute best part of this soup, bar none. Although it is completely acceptable to eat the whole can, a half can serving provides 100 calories, no fat, 280 mg of sodium (12% of the RDA), 4 grams of fiber (18% of the RDA), 4 grams of sugar, and 7 grams of protein. Furthermore, the wholesome (vegan) ingredients supply 25% of the RDA for Vitamin A. Another great thing about this soup is the ability to see/taste every ingredient on your spoon (one of my favorite parts about eating wholesome food products).
Amy's Organic Light Sodium Low Fat Split Pea Soup is a fantastic way to enjoy a nice big bowl of soup, warm your soul, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The low sodium aspect is prevalent, but allows for the tasty, organic ingredients to be the stars of the show (or the meal). I paid $2.00 for this on sale at Kroger and needless to say, I will be buying this again.
