One of my favorite protein-rich shakes is Nature's Plus Spirutein Simply Natural Vanilla Protein Powder. I like that it's not sweetened, so I can customize it to my level of comfort, and the vanilla taste is quite pleasing. When I saw a single-serving packet of Spiru-tein Simply Natural Peaches & Cream Protein Powder, I decided that it was the perfect time to try a different flavor. I picked up a pack for $1.49, which was a slightly costly but less risky opportunity to get my Spirutein fix.
I mixed my packet up with a little less than 3/4 cup of water because I like a thicker shake. I was a bit weirded out by the color, as was my boyfriend, who asked me right away, "What IS that??" Still, the smell was delightfully peachy, and I hoped for the best.
I took a bite and quickly discovered that the one packet of sweetener I had put in was just not cutting it. I added another and was more satisfied with the taste. Still, this flavor can only be described as artificial - this is peaches & cream the way it would taste if gummy peach rings married some heavy, not-quite-natural milk product. It was definitely a little too much for me.
Each scoop of Spiru-tein Simply Natural Peaches & Cream Protein Powder provides 100 calories, no fat, 6% of the daily value for sodium, 1 gram of fiber, 9 grams of sugars, 14 grams of protein, and 100% of the DV for vitamins A, C, D, E, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, B6, folic acid, B12, biotin, iodine, zinc and pantothenic acid.
The protein blend used is described as, a proprietary non-GMO protein blend (rice protein, pea protein and soy [isolated soy protein and fermented soy]).
Even with those stats, the taste just didn't win me over. Thankfully I had already tried and loved the Vanilla Spirutein flavor, or else I might not give this brand another chance. Thumbs up for Vanilla, but not so much for Peaches & Cream.
