I received a few packets of ExtendShake Strawberry Protein Shake and since I drink protein shakes regularly, I eagerly tore into one. I consider myself a pretty discerning protein shake drinker, and have definitely experienced my fair share of duds (what's up with those protein powders that basically make flavored milk), so I'm always experimenting with different brands and varieties.
I experienced a more authentic strawberry flavor than I've had in a long time. Sure, this strawberry was sweet, but it was also berry-like. It almost tasted like strawberries and cream (bonus). I like my shakes thick and creamy, and ExtendShake delived with a thick, not wimpy, and it was highly satisfying shake. This flavor was great with Silk Soymilk Plus Fiber, especially with the help of a little device I like to call the immersion blender!
Each 32 gram packet of Strawberry ExtendShake provides 110 calories, 2 grams of total fat, 5 grams of fiber (20% of the daily value), 1 gram of sugar, 15 grams of protein, and RDA values of 10% for vitamins A, C, D, E, K, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, B6, B12, biotin, B5, iodine, selenium, manganese, chromium, and molybdenum, 15% for folate, phosphorus, magnesium, and zinc, 20% for iron and copper, 6% for potassium, and 4% for calcium.
The sweetener used is sucralose (Splenda), that's why there is only 1 gram of sugars yet this tastes sweet. The protein used is isolated soy protein (see the ingredients list here).
A 5-pack costs $7.49 online (which is quite pricey), but these are available at some natural food stores and will be available at Target in April. I love protein shakes, and strawberry is a nice change of pace, and ExtendShake is on my 'to-buy' list.
