Popcorn itself is pretty healthy as a light, whole grain snack, but problems ensue when unhealthy flavorings like butter are added. Plus, the typical bag of popcorn has 2 or 3 servings, which can amplify the effect of the bad stuff if you're eating it by yourself. Orville Redenbacher's 100 Calorie Smart Pop 94% Fat Free Butter Mini Bags are a solution to these nutritional issues.
The mini bags are smaller than the typical popcorn bag and folded in half rather than thirds. The portion seemed smaller than other 100 calorie popcorn bags I've tried, but it could just be an optical illusion. There really isn't much butter flavor, but the salt is present. I can appreciate unadulterated popcorn, but this popcorn just seemed a little uninteresting.
One bag produces 6.5 cups of popcorn and has 100 calories and 2 grams of fat, including 0.5 gram of saturated fat. There are 220 milligrams of sodium (9% DV), 24 grams of carbohydrates, including 4 grams of dietary fiber, and 3 grams of protein.
A box of 4 mini bags normally costs $3.29 at Kroger, but I got it on sale for $1.99. This popcorn has good nutrition facts, and I appreciate the portion control. I wish I could have liked the taste more, but it was pretty ordinary.
For the sale price, these bags were an ok deal, but I don't think they merit the regular price.
