Orville Redenbacher's Smart Pop Kettle Korn Review

Orville Redenbacher's Smart Pop Kettle KornKettle corn reminds me of rustic amusement parks and country fairs, but unfortunately, opportunities for me to be at those places are pretty rare. Orville Redenbacher's Smart Pop Kettle Korn seemed like it might fit the bill when I'm in a nostalgic mood, with a description of, "slightly sweet, slightly salty, and 94% fat free." Sounds good to me, so I bought a box and hoped for the best.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 3 tablespoons unpopped (41 grams)

The kettle corn indeed has a nice, mild mix of sweet and salty. The popcorn is sweetened by the artificial sweetener sucralose, but I couldn't really tell when I ate it. The Smart Pop descriptor indicates that the popcorn is 94% fat free, and this particular type had 30% less sodium as well. Neither of these improvements in nutrition altered the good taste though.

A serving of three tablespoons of un-popped corn provides 130 calories and 2.5 grams of fat, including 0.5 gram of saturated fat. There is no cholesterol, but there are 250 milligrams of sodium (10% of the daily value), plus 5 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein.

Each bag has about 2 servings, and an 8.6 ounce box contains 3 bags, costing $2.79 while on sale and $3.29 at regular price. This kettle corn tastes great, so no complaints here. Like all popcorn, Orville Redenbacher's Smart Pop Kettle Korn is a great whole grain source of fiber, but the low fat content is a distinct plus.

Since this popcorn is a bit on the pricey side, I will probably wait quite a while before I buy this again. Still, I did like it and can see myself buying this again in the future.
