Many health conscious individuals choose to shy away from the sugar laden, highly processed product known as Pop Tarts. Well, we're not going to lie to you - the nutrition facts of Natures Path Organic Frosted Strawberry Toaster Pastries are similar to the pop tarts you love to hate, but the organic ingredients are what really separates the men from the boys, so to speak.
Each Toaster Pastry looks very similar to a Pop Tart with a light coating of white icing, which adds to the sweetness and texture. After one round in the toaster on low (like suggested), the pastry was warm and soft, but the layer of icing added a bit of crunch. The strawberry filling has a natural strawberry taste and adds a gooey sweet element. I have not had a Pop Tart in a long time (it's a love hate relationship), but from what I remember, these taste extremely similar (maybe even better).
Each one of Natures Path Organic Frosted Strawberry Toaster Pastries pastry has 210 calories, 4 grams of fat (6% of the Recommended Daily Amount), 2 grams of saturated fat (10% of the RDA), 1 gram of fiber (4% of the RDA), 19 grams of sugar, 3 grams of protein. I'm not a big fan of eating a lot of sugar first thing in the morning, so think of these toaster tots as, like Nature's Path states, "a delicious snack."
These toaster pastries are made with organic ingredients and real fruit. While they are not better nutritionally than regular Pop Tarts, making simple substitutions where you can will add up to make a better, healthier and eventually lower calorie way of eating. When I found them, they were on sale for $2.49. For this price, you will get 6- twin wrapped pastries, which could be a problem for some because 1 pastry is a serving! On the other hand, each pastry comes out to less than $0.50 each, which is very respectable! They are also available online at Amazon.com for $31.43 for 6 packs with 12 boxes each. Another good option, which actually has less calories (150 each) is Amy's Organic Toaster Pops.
