Fiber One seemed to be the first major brand to introduce oodles of fiber into foods for the general population. I'm constantly checking out their website for new products and that's when I saw Fiber One Toaster Pastries. There are four different flavors, Strawberry, Blueberry, Brown Sugar Cinnamon and Chocolate Fudge, but the only kind I was able to find at my local Wal-mart was Strawberry, so I took it home for $1.99 - a really good price in my opinion for 6 pastries.
Compared to Kellogg's Pop-tarts (I recently reviewed the Kellogg's Whole Grain Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts) the Fiber One toaster pastries are by far more delicious. I'm not a big fan of strawberry, but this pastry was really good. It was sweet with a delicious frosting on the outside. After a few seconds in the toaster oven it was warm, slightly toasted from the outside and soft on the inside.
One Fiber One Strawberry Toaster Pastry (52 grams) has 190 calories, 4 grams of total, 1 gram of saturated fat (6% and 5% of the recommended daily amount), no trans fat or cholesterol, 4 grams of protein and 36 grams of carbohydrates which includes 5 grams of fiber (20% of the RDA) and 15 grams of sugar.
My only complaint is that with these type of products you get two pastries per pocket, which could confuse people into thinking the label is for one pocket. But I know all you smart label-readers will realize you are only "allowed" to eat one pastry. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this for breakfast because I'd much rather have eggs or something less processed but if you're buying toaster pastry type products, then this is the best!
