McCann's Instant Sugar Free Irish Oatmeal has been a bit of a hit or miss with me. I liked the Cinnamon Roll flavor, but was not a big fan of the taste of the Instant Maple & Brown Sugar variety. I decided to let go of the sugar free varieties for now, and give the Regular version a try - just plain old McCann's Instant Irish Oatmeal.
McCann's has a thickness to it that I have found to be matched by no other product. I tend to cook up my oatmeal with less water than usually called for, because this gives it a much thicker texture. This oatmeal is perfect for doing that, because it's soft and hearty, and makes a wonderful warming snack or meal. Again, I'm a big proponent of salting my oatmeal (try it if you haven't), but McCann's variety works extremely well with cinnamon and sugar/Splenda as well. That's good for me, because I tend to eat more than one packet at once.
Each 28 gram packet of McCann's Instant Irish Oatmeal (Regular) provides 100 calories, 3% of the daily value for total fat and sodium, 3 grams of fiber, 1 gram of sugar, 4 grams of protein, and daily values of 20% for vitamin A, folate, niacin, vitamin B6, riboflavin, thiamin, and folic acid.
I loved this oatmeal, and one thing I can say about McCann's is generally, their oatmeal is very rich, creamy, and hearty. A a pack of 6 (12 count) boxes of McCann's Instant Irish Oatmeal (Regular) on Amazon.com cost me about $15 using the Subscribe & Save option. It worked out to about $2.50 per box.
I will definitely buy this again - although, as you can see by the amount that I ordered, it won't be for quite a while. Any other Mccann's Oatmeal fans out there?!
