On my gluten-free, milk-free kick recently, I rediscovered The Simply Bar. There are woefully few delicious-tasting nutrition bars out there that are free of both gluten and dairy, so these are a real find, but at $2.59, these bars don't come cheap.
I bought three different flavors, and decided to try the Cocoa Coffee Bar first. The flavors of chocolate and coffee are both noticeable in this bar, and they work well together, but the coffee was clearly the stronger of the two. The texture is both chewy and crunchy at the same time - don't ask me how - and overall, I would have to say, not too bad.
The ingredients list in this low glycemic index bar includes soy crisp (non GMO soy protein, tapioca starch, salt), organic agave nectar, organic brown rice syrup, organic cocoa mass, organic coffee beans, organic canola oil, and organic flavor. I don't know what "organic cocoa mass" is, but it makes this bar taste pretty darn good.
The Cocoa Coffee variety of The Simply Bar weighs in at 37 grams, and provides 140 calories, 2 grams of total fat, which includes 0.6 grams of saturated fat (both 3% of the daily value), 180 mg of sodium (8% of the DV), 1 gram of fiber, 8 grams of sugar, and 16 grams of protein. Each bar also provides 20% of the DV for iron.
I like all the protein in the bar - there's more protein than in the Larabar Chocolate Cherry Jocalat Bar and Kashi TLC Dark Mocha Almond Bar - but I have to say this flavor wasn't my favorite and the bars are expensive so I have to really LOVE it to make this a regular purchase. But if I saw it on sale I might buy it again.
