South Beach Living Snack Bar Delights in Whipped Chocolate Almond Snacks was something I picked up to help tide me through a weekend getaway. Almonds and chocolate are a classic combination as well as a favorite of mine, so the combo - not to mention the "whipped" quality - proved too intriguing for me to resist, which is probably why I spent the $7.99 on a box of 6 bars, instead of buying it individually like I would normally do.
I unwrapped one of the small 28 gram bars while travelling and took a bite. Initially, the almond-chocolate combination seemed artificial and strange, but then found myself enjoying the bar more and more with each bite, as I got over the super sweet flavor (these bars contain sugar alcohols). The almonds studding the nougat-like center were a nice touch. Alas, the bar was gone before too long, so I didn't really enjoy the experience much.
Each one of the South Beach Living Whipped Chocolate Almond Snack Bar Delights provides 100 calories, 5% of the daily value for total fat and sodium, 10% of the DV for saturated fat, 3 grams of fiber (12% of the DV), 6 grams of sugars, 4 grams of sugar alcohols and 6 grams of protein. There is also 20% of the daily value for calcium.
This is a small bar, but they did try and pack as many grams of protein and fiber as they could. The ingredients list might be a tough read for some - lots of different kinds of sugars, sugar alcohols & sucralose (no wonder this bar tastes so sweet), although there is no high fructose corn syrup. The protein is a blend of whey & soy.
Overall, given the flavor, nutrition, and price, I probably will not be adding this to my roster of favorite nutrition bars and I prefer the South Beach Living Chocolate Mint Snack Bar Delights to this flavor.
