I'm a big fan of the South Beach Living (formerly Diet) line, so when I saw their Snack Bar Delights in the grocery store, I had to try some. I was deciding between the two available flavors - Chocolate Raspberry and Chocolate Mint - and ended up going with the latter. I bought a box of 6 for $5.49 which is not too bad since each bar works out to be less than $1.00 (... well not too bad if these bars taste good).
First thing I did when I got home was take out a bar and check out the label. Each 28 gram bar provides 100 calories, 6% of the daily value for total fat, but 15% of the DV for saturated fat, plus, 20% of the DV for fiber, 5 grams of sugar and 6 grams of protein.
I wasn't too pleased with the high saturated fat content, but I bit into a bar anyway, and was delighted with the taste. Ooh, it's chewy and rich, and the mint flavor was perfect - not artificial, but definitely delicious. Whereas I wasn't impressed with the Chocolate Mint flavor of the Doctor's CarbRite Diet Bar, I was with this South Beach version.
The price was right, and the flavor was spot on, but the size of this bar is a small 28 grams. While I wasn't happy with the saturated fat content, I was pleased that I could get a decent amount of fiber and protein. The ingredients list contains the sugar alcohol, maltitol (so that's how they keep the sugar content low). Weighing all those things, I will most likely be buying these again. This has more protein than Balance 100 Calories Vanilla Caramel Crisp Bar and Powerbar Pria 110 Plus Bar, which are both the same size (and have other similar nutrition facts) to this South Beach Living Bar.
