ProBar makes organic, all natural, 'whole food' bars. Their Fruition line is a fruit-based superfood snack bar made with a base of organic dates & oats. I received a sample of the ProBar Fruition Cherry Bar when I went to the 2010 Summer Fancy Food Show, and it was probably one of the things that kept me from passing out from such a HUGE but fantastic showcase of specialty foods.
These vegan bars don't taste as 'datey' and sweet as LaraBar Cherry Pie Bar. The flavor is more complex - slightly sweet and slightly 'bready. Sometimes there are little chia seeds left over in my mouth after I've chewed and swallowed a bite (I know the taste of these little gel balls well after having experienced Chia Goodness Cranberry Ginger Cereal). The flavor took a little getting used to, but after a few bites, I was definitely a fan.
Each 48 gram ProBar Fruition Cherry Bar provides 160 calories, 2 grams of total fat, 16% of the daily value for fiber, 19 grams of sugars and 3 grams of protein. The difference in taste between the Cherry Larabar and this ProBar Fruition bar is probably because the Larabar contains only dates, almonds and unsweetened cherries. The Fruition Cherry Bar contains organic date paste, oats, brown rice syrup, cashews, dried cherries, black chia seed, white chia seed, natural cherry flavor, citric acid, tocopherols, ascorbic acid, natural flavors & arabic gum.
Fruition Bars retail for about $1.49 each. While I liked this bar, I prefer the LaraBar Cherry Pie Bar - and it's worth the extra 30 calories and 2 grams of sugars. Still, neither is something I would have everyday, but would keep on hand when I want to satisfy a serious craving for something sweet, and these wouldn't cause too much damage to a healthy diet, or when I needed to fuel up for a long intense bike ride or some other vigorous exercise.
