If you've read my review of Clif Mojo Bars, you'll know that I love combination of sweet and salty flavors. Give me honey-roasted peanuts or chocolate-covered pretzels any day, and I'll be a happy camper. It was just this taste for sweet and savory that prompted me to buy Odwalla Chewy Nut Bars.
Chewy Nut Bars come in three varieties: Sweet and Salty Almond, Sweet and Salty Peanut, and Trail Mix. All three varieties have a very similar flavor, which is decidedly more sweet than salty. These make a great snack on-the-go--definitely more so than Mojo Bars because they are not as crumbly. One word of advice--I recommend biting into these bars directly rather than breaking off pieces with your fingers. Chewy Nut Bars are sticky, and yes, very chewy.
Each 45 gram bar contains 190-220 Calories and 6-11 grams of fat. The sizeable fat gram count comes from the abundance of chopped nuts in each bar. In addition, there are just 5 grams of protein, 2-6 grams of fiber, and a smattering of vitamins and minerals. The almond variety has the most fiber (6g) and the least amount of sugar, with 8 grams instead of 11-12 grams.
I purchased these at Whole Foods for $1.19 each. I would buy these again, but not as a source of protein. Nonetheless, Odwalla's Chewy Nut Bars are a tasty, filling snack.
