When I went to my cousin's wedding in New Hampshire, I took the bus up and back from NY. I don't do well on bus rides, as I have a tendency to get motion sick very easily, so I like to keep some snacks on hand to help my stomach. I wasn't adequately prepared this time, though, and when I got out at the rest stop and saw that Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, and a small convenience store were my food-buying options, I wasn't optimistic.
I wandered around for a little bit to scope out the fare. I saw plenty of candy and chip options - not exactly what I was going for. There were pre-made sandwiches, too, but who knows how long ago they were made! My eyes fell on a Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Fruit & Nut Bar, Berry Almond flavor, and I decided to go with that. I hadn't tried it before, but when I flipped the bar over to examine the nutrition facts, I was sold. Each 32-gram bar provides 120 calories, 3.5 grams of fat (no saturated or trans fats), 100 mg of sodium (4% of the daily value), 3 grams of fiber, 11 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein. That's a little better than other fruit and nut bars, like Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix Bar.
Unlike the regular "Nutri-Grain" bar which has a fruit filling in the middle, this was more of a tradiotonal bar. This was so delicious too - sweet and chewy, packed with berries and almonds for a nice, satisfying crunch. And for only $0.89, it was a steal. Unfortunately, I have since learned that this has been discontinued. Why Kelloggs, whyyy?! If I see this anywhere else, I plan to stock up.
On a side note, all of the discontinued products from Kellogg's can be seen here.
