Kashi GoLean Crunchy! Cinnamon Coffee Cake Bar Review

Kashi GoLean Crunchy Cinnamon Coffee Cake BarCoffee cake is one of those foods I often yearn for when I'm in a coffee shop, but I restrain myself because of the ridiculous nutritional stats. I mean, one single slice of Starbucks Classic Coffee Cake has 570 calories and 50% of the daily value for saturated fat! The Starbucks Reduced-Fat Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake isn't much better, weighing in at 360 calories.

So what should I do? Give up this sweet treat entirely? I think not, especially since the folks over at Kashi have come up with their own version: Kashi GoLean Crunchy! Cinnamon Coffee Cake Bar. I've already declared my undying affection for Kashi GoLean Crunchy! Chocolate Pretzel flavor - and Kashi products in general - so I was incredibly eager to try this flavor.

Kashi describes the bar as an "all natural vanilla coffee cake flavored snack bar infused with the dreamy combination of cinnamon and roasted hazelnut chunks." Dreamy is right; this treat is delicious! The vanilla cinnamon flavor is fantastic - not too spicy or sweet, with just the right touch of hazelnut. Sure, this snack doesn't have the same texture as coffee cake, but honestly, I prefer the texture of Crunchy! bars over that of the often-stale slice of coffee cake.

One Kashi GoLean Crunchy! Cinnamon Coffee Cake Bar cost me $1.99 at the grocery store. Each 45 gram serving (one bar) has 160 calories, 4.5 grams of fat (5% of the DV), of which 2.5 grams are saturated fat (13% of the DV), 240 mg of sodium (10% of the DV), 11 grams of protein and 28 grams of total carbohydrates including 5 grams of fiber and 13 grams of sugar, as well as respectable amounts of various vitamins and minerals.

That means you could have two of these guys for the caloric equivalent of a reduced-fat slice of coffee cake at the S'Bucks! My recommendation? Pick this bar up and have it with your coffee for a delicious, far less caloric treat.
