Chocolate and mint together make an amazing combination (almost as good as chocolate and peanut butter). Ever since my first experience of this flavor combination with York Peppermint Patties, I've seen it in Luna Chocolate Mint Cookie, Weight Watchers Smart Ones Mint Chocolate Chip Sundae, Hershey's Mint Milk Chocolate Sticks, Attune Cool Mint Chocolate Probiotic Wellness Bars and JellO Sugar Free Chocolate Mint Fudge Pudding Snack - just to name a few products that have been reviewed here. Most of those products have gotten good reviews, so I was looking forward to trying this combo in Doctor's CarbRite Chocolate Mint Cookie Diet Bar.
One reason I love Doctor's CarbRite Bars is that they're quite big, weighing in at 57 grams, and this one was no exception. These bars are generally chewy and satisfying, and manage to pack a lot of flavor in for minimal calories. For just 190 calories, you get a full 21 grams of protein, 5% of the daily value for total and saturated fat, and no sugar. Unfortunately, there is no fiber either, and they use a hefty 20 grams of sugar alcohols which may cause GI upset in some people.
Let's talk taste. I bit into this bar, looking forward to the wonderful combination of chocolate and mint. I have to say, it was good but not great. The mint was somewhat overpowering, and the chocolate had a hard time standing up to it. Darn! Luckily I have other Doctor's CarbRite options, so I won't suffer too much if I don't buy this one again.
I bought this Doctor's CarbRite Diet Chocolate Mint Cookie Bar for $1.79 at a local drugstore. I was unhappy with this flavor, but have had plenty of others that are fantastic. My recommendation: skip this and go for the Toasted Coconut or Frosted Cinnamon Bun flavors.
