Coconut is one of my favorite flavors and texture to have in a food, so when Atkins sent me a sample box of their products to try out, the Atkins Endulge Chocolate Coconut Bar was the first one I gravitated towards. From the Atkins website, "(Atkins Endulge Bars) taste just like your favorite candy bars, but there's only 1 gram of sugar - which means no guilt. Just amazing taste, smart nutrition and another step closer to your goal."
Like I said, I dug into this product right away and let me tell you, it tasted delicious. Absolutely delicious
. The coconut (REAL coconut) is super chewy and flavorful. The dark chocolate coating is perfect with the inside filling and doesn't taste artificial at all. Compared to a Mounds bar, this has less fat, fewer calories, and more vitamins and minerals ... and it tastes just as good.
The taste was so delicious, and I knew that there was only 1 gram of sugars (9 grams of sugar alcohols) per 40 gram serving, but what I was stunned to see was 47% of the daily value for saturated fat. Ouch! Each 40 gram Atkins Endulge Chocolate Coconut Bar also provides 180 calories, 19% of the DV for total fat and 33% of the DV for fiber.
The ingredients list for an Atkins Endulge Chocolate Coconut Bar starts with coconut (preserved with sulfites) which may have something to do with all the saturated fat.
As I mentioned before, I received samples from the company, but they retail at $5.79 for a 5-pack at the Atkins online store. I really LOVE the taste of these bars - probably too much. I I think I may buy the occasional single serving, but it's just too rich in saturated fat for me. The Atkins Endulge Caramel Nut Chew Bar has less saturated fat (still at 20% though).
