Archer Farms is the Target brand, and we have already reviewed a few products from this label that were quite good, like the Archer Farms All Natural Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Spread and Archer Farms Organic Pomegranate Fruit Strips. I decided to give another one of the brand's products a try, so I picked up a box of Archer Farms Honey Apple Spice 7 Grain Granola Bars.
The fall-like apple cinnamon aroma that wafts from the wrapper upon ripping it open is the only thing that will put a smile on your face. Upon examination, you will note that the bar is extremely compact with oats, barley, wheat flakes, puffed rice and an array of other grains with a slight glaze throughout. That doesn't seem so bad until you take your first bite. It is extremely chewy ... to the point that at one moment I felt as though I was eating apple cinnamon gum with stale grains mixed in. Ewww . I have never had a bar with this texture and I never want to experience it again. The flavor isn't bad, but it won't help you get past the overly chewy, somewhat stale texture.
Each 1.4 ounce Archer Farms Simply Balanced Honey Apple Spice 7 Grain Granola Bar provides 140 calories, 3% of the daily value for total fat, no saturated fat, 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 8 grams of sugar and 5 grams of protein. The ingredients list is short & sweet.
Target's concoction was not much cheaper than Kashi's, each carrying a reasonable price tag somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.79 for a box of 5. I will not being buying Archer Farms Honey Apple Spice 7 Grain Granola Bars again because there are too many good bars out there to waste my time with these ... Kashi TLC Dark Mocha Almond Bar and Clif ZBars to name a few.
