Honest Foods (now called Earnest Eats) has a name that makes me smile because, in the end, don't we all just wish that foods would be honest to us, feed our bodies with honest nutrition and come from the hands of honest people?! The idea of Granola planks really captivated my interest. Honest Foods says, "With Honest Foods Granola Planks, all that stands between you and a zillion yummy clusters are your own capable fingers. Crumble over yogurt for a delicious breakfast. Pop in your pocket for an on-the-go snack. Toast and top with almond butter. The best part is that since our granola is exposed to less air, the flavors are locked in until you break them up. You'll smell and taste the difference as soon as you open the package." Well, I had me a Honest Foods Maple Almond Crunch Plank and I couldn't wait to try it.
The planks of granola are not crunchy and hard, as you might expect, but are deliciously compact with flavorful, all natural ingredients melding together for a smooth and chewy overall mouth feel. Each bite possesses a nice chew and thorough flavor that brings visions of my mom's holiday maple nut fudge dancing in my head. You will spot chunks of various nuts, plump dried fruit (which is like little pockets of sweet jam when you heat up the bar) and plenty of grains with every bite you take (or crumble you make). The sweetness is just perfectly satisfying and amplifies any product that you combine it with.
Each package of Honest Foods Maple Almond Crunch Plank contains 2 pieces - each is considered 1/2 of a plank. Each one provides 190 calories and 7 grams of fat (11% of the daily value), which comes from all natural sources like nuts, with just a touch of canola oil added to bring the bar together. Furthermore, the 3 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein in each half of a plank will keep more than just your taste buds satisfied. Everything on the ingredient list is legit and worthy of fueling my body.
These planks are great crumbled over ice cream or yogurt, as an oatmeal topper, popping out of the toaster or microwave and straight from the wrapper, plus these bars are perfect post-workout fuel or a great replacement for a sinful cookie craving (trust me, Honest Foods' creations are better than any cookie I have ever had). They are well worth their price of $2.99 and I would purchase this vegan-friendly treat again very soon!
