I tend to enjoy banana infused treats such as Back to Nature Banana Walnut Bakery Squares and Banana Nut Cheerios, so I thought it was a safe bet that I would also enjoy Penny's Low Fat Desserts Banana Bran Muffin. Just look at all our reviews of Penny's Low Fat Desserts - I don't think there is one thing that I haven't liked yet!
I tried my muffin both heated in the microwave and defrosted in the fridge. Both avenues brought something different to the table. The hot steamy muffin emerging from 30 seconds of nuking in its open little plastic sleeve was fluffy and had that fresh from the oven feel to it. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the muffin cold, especially since I could just grab it from the fridge when I'm in a rush and (almost) late for class.
This muffin is dense, moist and flavor-packed. It has a bit of texture from the bran and the sweetness very naturally accompanies the prominent banana flavor (which evolves from all natural banana puree). It tastes remarkably similar to homemade banana bread. The edges were a tad bit firmer, while the center was extremely dense, moist and soft. I think this may just be one of my favorite Penny's treats. Better yet, it is naturally "no sugar added" due to the use of erythritol and rebiana (Stevia) in the batter (that combination of sweeteners may sound familiar to the Truvia fans out there).
You would never guess that Penny's Low Fat Desserts Banana Bran Muffins are no sugar added. You would also never believe that these TASTY, MASSIVE muffins only set you back 100 calories, 1.5 grams of total fat (no saturated fat), 6 grams of fiber (24% of the daily value), 3 grams of sugar and 4 grams of protein. The ingredients list is a winner too.
A box with 12 Penny's No Sugar Added Low Fat Banana Bran Muffins costs $25.00 or you could purchase them individually for $2.08 at the Penny's online store. And they are worth every penny, especially considering the 460 calorie alternative (Diet Trash: Otis Spunkmeyer Muffins).
