I always go for minty gum when I'm picking up a pack in the drugstore. I'll admit that I'm quite addicted to gum or shall I say, I'm a bit of a conosseur. My favorite flavor is spearmint, with some extension into the peppermint territory. But, variety is the spice of life they say, so I decided to blindly try a new flavor, Trident Tropical Twist, which I found in the drugstore for $1.29.
I didn't know what to expect from a gum that smelled like a fruity cocktail. To be honest, my major concern was how long it would last and I was also worried about the size, because of my last experience with Trident (Trident Xtra Care Cool Citrus Gum) where I found the sticks of gum small and not quite as satisfying. However, when I unwrapped my piece and started chewing, I was overcome with a deliciously tropical flavor. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of tropical fruits, but artificial tropical is another story entirely!
Pictured on the front of the package are kiwi, orange, and what looks to be pineapple, and while I didn't taste each flavor individually, I liked the combination immensely. I also noticed that the flavor lasted longer than I thought it would, and it didn't leave a gross aftertaste. The size was a little small, but in this case, that's okay - a bigger stick of gum might have led to too much Tropical goodness for me.
Trident Tropical Twist Gum is a sugar-free, low-calorie gum. Each piece provides 3.5 calories, and little else nutritionally. The ingredients are, "Sorbitol, Gum Base, Xylitol, Natural and Artificial Flavoring, Mannitol, Glycerin, Aspartame, Acesulfame Potassium, Soy Lecithin, Yellow 6 Lake, Yellow 5 Lake, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 40, Blue 1, BHT." Wowza, Trident - I count 5 different sweeteners - sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol, aspartame, acesulfame K.
This flavor is now a favorite of mine - but don't worry Stride Sweet Peppermint Gum, you're still my favorite overall.
