There's nothing like popping a piece of minty fresh gum into your mouth after a spicy meal, or even just for a mid-day pick me up. Normally I'm not a fan of peppermint-flavored gum and candy - the taste is often too strong for me. I couldn't help but notice, however, the Stride Gum Sweet Peppermint flavor. Sweet, you say? Does that mean it won't overpower my taste buds, which are so used to spearmint? I picked up a pack of this sugar-free gum for $1.29 to check it out.
The taste is not as great as Spearmint, but it's a wonderful change of pace. I surprised myself with this one - a peppermint I actually like! Gum is low-calorie to begin with, and this is no exception, because it's made with artificial sweeteners (aspartame). Each piece has just 3.5 calories, and 1 serving is 2 pieces - 7 calories, no fat, no sodium, no sugar (but 1 gram of sugar alcohols), and no protein.
The ingredients are sorbitol, gum base, mannitol, xylitol, glycerin, natural & artificial flavors, aspartame, acesulfame K, soy lecithin, blue 2 lake titanium dioxide (color), blue lake 1, and BHT (to maintain freshness).
That ingredients list does leave something to be desired, so I must search for a more natural chewing gum - any recommendations?! For now, I really enjoyed the taste of Stride Sweet Peppermint Gum, and it really does have long-lasting flavor. I plan to try a few more flavors to see which I like best. Did I mention that I tend to chew gum a lot?!
