Slammers Milky Way Reduced fat Chocolate Milk Review
I was on my way to get a cup of coffee when I spotted Milky Way brand reduced fat Chocolate Milk in a vending machine in a building on my college campus -milk that "tastes just like a Milky Way Bar." Of course, it was $1.50, but since this is the first time I have seen milk anywhere on this Auburn University campus, I happily shelled out the buck fitty and got the milk instead of coffee.
This doesn't really taste like a Milky Way bar to me - well, what I mean is that it tastes like chocolate milk. If Milky Way wasn't on the front of the label, I wouldn't make the connection. It is very sweet. So sweet that I had to glance at the sugar content - 20 grams in half a bottle - which means I just ingested 40 grams of sugar, or about 10 teaspoons! While the bottle packaging may say reduced fat, and it barely is with 5 grams total fat, and 3 grams saturated fat per serving (so remember to multiply by 2 to get how much is in a bottle), just know that there is plenty of high fructose corn syrup included to make up for what they took out in fat. They also added some alternative sweeteners so the HFCS wouldn't get lonely - acesulfame K, Splenda AND neotame. Did I mention that this milk is really sweet?

One serving also has 170 calories, 580 mg potassium (17% of daily recommendations), 10 grams of protein and 10% of many vitamins and minerals. Of course I checked out the expiration date too. I know some of the complaints about including milk in vending machines is that the milk may spoil, and vendors will have to end up dumping a lot of their product weekly. The bottle cap had a "sell by" date 1 year from now. That's because the milk is UHT processed (Ultra High Temperature), which means they pasteurize to such high temperatures, they killed everything and then some.
I may purchase this as an impulse buy in the future, but I'm a bit put off by the amount of sugar in it. However, this may appeal to kids, and teenagers, because of the 'candy' implication. The company that produces this, Bravo Foods also has 3 Musketeers and Marvel Comics Superheros, such as SpiderMan, chocolate milk too.
