There once was a time when Silk brand was synonymous with "SoyMilk" but not anymore. A while back, I reviewed Silk PureCoconut Original CoconutMilk Review and now it's time to look at one of their "AlmondMilk" products - Silk Vanilla PureAlmond Unsweetened AlmondMilk.
So, let's get this out of the way. On it's own, Silk Vanilla PureAlmond Unsweetened AlmondMilk doesn't have much flavor. It's almost like water but with a slightly beany after-taste ... barely noticeable. Also, I diddn't really detect much of any almond flavor, but then again - I didn't chug a whole lot of it. What I did do, was add it to my breakfast cereal. That's the main way I use these dairy alternatives.
Paired with a bowl of Kashi Heart to Heart Warm Cinnamon Oat Cereal (Review), it took on the flavor of the cinnamony goodness. I think that's the best thing about Silk Vanilla PureAlmond Unsweetened AlmondMilk - it's more like a vehicle that's a little bland on it's own, but perfect for letting the flavors of other components come through.
In addition to being Non-GMO project verified, Silk Vanilla PureAlmond Unsweetened AlmondMilk is dairy free, lactose-free and soy-free. Each 1 cup serving of provides only 30 calories from 2.5 grams of total fat, 1 gram of fiber and 1 gram of protein. Pay attention to the fact that this will stay fresh in the refrigerator for only 7-10 days after opening. I have a bad habit of keeping mine around for much longer.
