Purely Decadent Dairy Free Cherry Nirvana Ice Cream Review

Rating:

Turtle Mountain Soy Delicious Attention foodies: I have found THE most scrumptious, heavenly, not-so-bad for you, dessert on the planet! Drum roll please... Turtle Mountain Purely Decadent Soy Delicious non-dairy frozen dessert in Cherry Nirvana (Whew, that is a title)! In other words, it's soy ice cream, but believe me, this stuff hasn't the faintest taste of soy.

I was a little nervous about what to expect appearance-wise upon opening the carton; Would it be smelly like some soy-based products? Would it even remotely resemble ice cream? I was quite surprised to find that the Purely Decadent looked exactly like ice cream! And a GOOD quality ice cream at that - none of those annoying little hard ice crystals or anything on top.

I measured out the 1/2 cup serving (100g) on my kitchen scale because I wanted to accurately gauge the nutrition value and how satisfied I would feel with the recommended serving. As I sat down on my couch Indian style (because really I think this is the ONLY way to truly enjoy ice cream!) and dug in...I swear I could have melted right there into a little pool of bliss and died a happy woman! Whoever named this product "Cherry Nirvana" should be given a marketer's star of honor for actually giving consumers an ACCURATE description of the product, because there was a smorgasbord of glistening, plump black cherries everywhere! There are also rich chocolate flecks throughout and the black cherries just burst in my mouth with juiciness! How, HOW I ask myself did the geniuses at Turtle Mountain keep these cherries from turning into hard frozen rocks???

Once I finished my 1/2 cup serving I was actually satisfied! As delicious as it was, I felt comfortable and didn't feel the need to sprint back to the freezer and devour the whole pint! Oh and I forgot to mention the best, OK second best thing (the taste is the best!) about the product...the nutrition!! Well, I mean its clearly not equivalent to chowing down on an apple, but compared to normal ice cream...say Haagen Dazs...it is leaps and bounds better for you!

One serving is half a cup with 190 calories, 9 grams of total fat which is 14% of your daily value and 2 grams of saturated fat which is 10% of the DV (you can't expect to have ice cream without a little fat)! There is also 1 gram of protein and 32 grams of carbohydrates, which includes 5 grams of fiber (wow!!!), and 17 grams of sugar BUT, none of the sugars are from high fructose corn syrup or even corn syrup, the sweeteners read like: Brown Rice Syrup and Cane Juice. There is not much in terms of minerals and no calcium, but instead of mentally thinking, "Oh, I'll have some ice cream to get my 3-4 servings of dairy a day", you can opt for a more nutritious calcium source like skim milk or cheese or yogurt.

I bought the product at a place called Drug Emporium for $3.25 for a small pint container (a small price to pay for euphoria) and I am pretty sure that Turtle Mountain's products are available at most big national chain stores and definitely at places like Whole Foods. I felt so confident after trying this product that I am really excited to try the other flavors of Turtle Mountain Purely Decadent 'Ice Cream.'
