Haagen-Dazs Light Dutch Chocolate Ice Cream Review

Haagen-Dazs released a long awaited 'light' version of their ice cream ... because you know HD is not the most "calorie friendly" ice cream out there (they might even be the least calorie friendly). The nutrition facts for the regular Haagen Dazs ice cream includes an average of 300 calories and 60% of the daily value of saturated fat from each 1/2 cup serving.
The Dutch Chocolate Light version manages to live up to the high standards that ice cream lovers associate with the Haagen-Dazs brand. It's smooth, rich and creamy, though I believe it loses a little bit of the fullness in body and sweetness with the loss of some of the fat and sugar.

But, although this is a 'light' ice cream, you will still get 190 calories per 1/2 cup serving from 5 grams of total fat, 3 grams of which is saturated fat (15% of your daily value), 55 mg cholesterol (19% of the DV), and 15 grams of sugar. This is a huge improvement over the 'regular chocolate' mentioned before, but there are other reduced fat varieties of ice cream out there with fewer calories and saturated fat (especially Edy's Slow Churned brands).
One pint of Haagen-Dazs cost $2.76 - not bad at all. In the interest of writing this review, I consumed only 3 teaspoons of ice cream. I was only going to have 1 teaspoon at first, then just 2, which turned into 3. I forced myself to put this back in the freezer - God only knows what will happen if I don't get one of my friends to come and take it.
