Craving a sweet treat without the guilty sugar, I ventured to the grocery store with the intention of trying something new. When I saw Bare Fruit Granny Smith Apple Chips, I knew I had found my snack. I picked up the 2.6-ounce (73-gram) version for $3.99 - pricey but too intriguing to pass up, after all, these "chips" are fat- and gluten-free, with no added sugar, preservatives, or additives. Plus they are gluten-free and Kosher too.
I opened the generously-sized bag and tried some. Delicious
! The chips are tart and sweet at the same time, and it's hard to believe they don't have any added sugar. Unlike Brothers All Natural Fruit Crisps, these aren't freeze dried, just baked to deliver some immensely satisfying, crunchy chips.
Each 12 gram serving of serving of Bare Fruit 100% Organic Granny Smith Apple Chips provides 29 calories, no fats, 1% of the daily value for sodium, 1 gram of fiber and 7 grams of sugar. The serving size is ridiculously small though - the usual serving size for "potato" chips is 28 grams. The only ingredients are organic apples!
The sugar grams can add up, so don't go eating the entire bag. Still, I will definitely be buying these again. Hopefully I can get them for cheaper (Amazon.com has them at $29.72 for a pack of 12). Each bag containing 5 whole apples and the taste is definitely something to rave about. Now, I hope they work on bringing down the price a little bit.
