Kashi Sweet and Sour Chicken Review
Kashi frozen entrees are a little more expensive than some of the other frozen meals like Lean Cuisine or Health Choice, but the ingredients used are definitely all healthy - all natural. In this Sweet and Sour Chicken dinner, Kashi has "Sliced chicken with roasted green beans and yellow pepper, red pepper, crimini mushrooms, onions and edamame (soybeans), served over Kashi 7 Whole Grains Pilaf (similar to rice but better), and topped with a light, tangy sweet and sour sauce." Kashi has successully made a better tasting sweet and sour chicken frozen dinner with healthier ingredients.
I am totally in love with sweet and sour sauce and foods because it is usually hard to get it wrong (check out the 5 kiss rated Gardenburger Sweet and Sour Pork Rice (which is really soy and not 'pork'), and the 4 kiss rated Lean Cuisine Sweet and Sour Chicken. If I compared Kashi to the Lean Cuisine meal, I would say Kashi comes out on top. The whole grain rice pilaf that Kashi uses is like a crunchy rice - no more boring soft, mushy rice. The chicken is plentiful, soft and tender, and the vegetable meddley with the soft but crunchy edamame was very tasty as well (and this coming from someone who doesn't always eat their veggies). The sweet and sour sauce is a little more sweet than sour, but it totally ties the meal together. I previously reviewed Kashi Black Bean Mango Entree [here], and I have to say that I prefer the Sweet and Sour Chicken.

One dinner has 320 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 0.5 grams of saturated fat (both os which are about 5% of the daily requirement), no trans fat, LOWER SODIUM than most every other frozen dinner at 380 mg, 6 grams of dietary fiber, 25 grams of sugar - 55 grams total carbs and 18 grams of protein. There is also 80% vitamin C, 10% iron and 17% potassium (600 mg).
Maybe a bit too much sugar - but it is sweet and sour sauce after all! I liked this meal and hopefully I can catch this on sale, so I can pay a little less than the $3.59 that it cost at Kroger.
