Healthy Choice says, "Add some zest to lunchtime with this mouthwatering meal that's a real treat for your taste buds. Healthy Choice Pineapple Chicken features fried chicken breast, red peppers, and the deliciously unexpected zing of pineapple tossed in a sweet glaze over a soft bed of whole-grain rice, this delectable dish is sure to please." Well, that's just what I wanted to do - add some zest to my lunchtime with a mouthwatering meal!
This meal was just okay for me - bordering on I'll probably not buy this again. I think my main issue was the the flavors didn't seem consistent, and they didn't go well together. The breaded chicken seemed to take hold of the sweetness of the sauce like a fish takes to water and some pieces would almost be too sweet, while others were just right. Also, to be very literal, there are 4 pieces of chicken pictured on the box, and there were only 3 in my meal.
The pineapple seemed a little out of place with it's slightly sour taste, and it didn't really seem to go well with the chicken. Then the rice with the sauce only would sometimes be more sour than sweet. The carrots were nice and firm, while the bell peppers were a bit limp, but still had flavor - and they were actually the highlights of this dish for me ... wait, didn't I say something similar about Healthy Choice Sweet and Sour Chicken? Different vegetables, similar batter fried chicken and the end result - neither is anything special.
Each Healthy Choice Pineapple Chicken meal provides 380 calories, 11% & 8% of the daily value for total fat and saturated fat, 9% of the DV for sodium, 20% of the DV for fiber, 30 grams of sugars and 9 grams of protein.
Way too much sugar for me - and this is not even a desert, which is where I prefer to get my sugar highs from. Healthy Choice - you have some meals that I really enjoy, like Healthy Choice Sweet Asian Pot Stickers and Healthy Choice Mediterranean Pasta, but Healthy Choice Pineapple Chicken is not one of them ... although I did get it for a very low price of $1.88, and if I had only $2.00 to spend on a meal, I guess I wouldn't feel bad about buying this.
