MorningStar Farms Chik'n Nuggets are meatless nuggets made from textured soy protein. I popped them in the oven instead of microwaving them and flipped halfway through so both sides got crispy then took them out to nosh. I don't know about you, but unless it's left overs and I'm in a hurry, I find that oven baked nuggets taste much better than the microwaved kind.
These faux-meat chik'n nuggets were so much better than even the Purdue real chicken ones. The texture on the inside is smooth and not stringy or uneven like real chicken can be. The outside gets nice and crunchy and tastes of a slight hint of spices. They go great with a chilled side of ketchup (I'm a condiment person). I made them for my friends the next night (and baked sliced and salted sweet potatoes for healthy 'nuggets & fries'). They're usually the first to call me a crazy health-nut but they absolutely loved them!
One serving of MorningStar Farms Chik'n Nuggets is 4 nuggets and has 190 calories, 7 grams of total fat (11% of the recommended daily amount), but only 1 gram of saturated fat (5% of the RDA), 20% of the RDA for sodium, 12 grams of protein and 18 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 1 gram of sugars and 2 grams of fiber.
A box with about 3.5 servings (14 nuggets ) cost $4.99, which is a bit on the expensive side. Although I liked the taste of these nuggets a lot, the ingredients list is quite long and convoluted. I wouldn't buy these on a regular basis because I fear I would eat more than just a few in one sitting. But they are great for when you have people over.
