I've been enjoying going meatless for one day a week. Lunch on Monday involved LightLife Spicy Sweet & Sour Smart Cutlets, which I received from the PR company for review. This is described on the box as, veggie protein cutlets in sauce ... a fusion of Asian flavors with a little kick.
The last time I had a LightLife product, the Buffalo Smart Wings, I used the microwave method, and that might have been part of the reason I didn't like it, so this time, I made sure to use the preferred "skillet" method, i.e. dump everything in a pan at medium heat, and cook for 2 minutes on each side.
The box contains 2 cutlets, each 1 is a serving, and you really don't need more than 1, because they are thick! I really liked how moist and juicy these cutlets are, and they are quite tasty too. One thing LightLife always does right is their sauce! It was amazing as usual, sweet with a little hint of a spicy kick to it - not too much so fear not if you don't like spicy foods. There was also a slight soy-ish taste to this though that the sauce couldn't mask - not bad ... just different. Overall I really liked this.
I decided to have mine with a side of Alexia Waffle Cut Sweet Potato Fries, but the next day, I used the other cutlet to make a burger, and it was so good!
Each 147 gram LightLife Spicy Sweet & Sour Smart Cutlet provides 230 calories, only 1 gram of total fat, 460 mg of sodium (19% of the daily value), 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 19 grams of protein and 22 grams of sugars. The ingredients list for the cutlet starts with water and textured soy protein concentrate, wheat gluten, wheat starch, egg white powder, and less than 2% of a few other ingredients.
There's quite a bit of sugars in this - but it does say Spicy Sweet & Sour, so that's to be expected. I would definitely buy this again - in fact I did. I found them at my local grocery store for $3.50. This can make lunch a breeze.
