Subway Veggie Patty Review

Rating:

Subway Veggie PattySubway has tried to cultivate a reputation as one of the healthier fast food chains, thanks to offering several sandwich options with under 6 grams of fat and yogurt, apples, and raisins as side options instead of oily french fries. If you're looking for a meatless option however, you might think that you're stuck with the Veggie Delight, which is basically a salad on a bun - hardly satisfying. But recently, I visited a Subway that offers a more substantial option: the Veggie Patty Sandwich.

You'll be able to instantly recognize this sandwich because it looks like a rectangular veggie burger, with visible bits of carrot and peppers. The veggie patty sandwich comes as a "melt" meaning that it usually topped with melted cheese. In the interest of calorie counts and your health, I would suggest ordering your sandwich without cheese or mayonnaise and asking for plenty of vegetables instead. The Veggie Patty itself tastes like a Gardenburger - plenty salty with the added texture of vegetables and vegetable protein. They can be a little oily, so you might want to blot off excess moisture with your napkin before digging in.

Each Veggie Patty contains 160 calories, 5 grams of fat (8% of the RDA), 3 grams of fiberv(12% of the RDA) and a whopping 15 grams of protein. Unfortunately, there is also 520 milligrams of sodium, which is 22% your daily allowance. Also remember that these numbers are for the patty alone. Bread alone adds 200-250 calories.

Overall I would order this again if the Veggie Delight simply won't satisfy me. The patty's impressive protein content makes it great for keeping my hunger at bay, at least for a few hours. The oiliness, however, does leave me a little concern, making me think that the nutritional stats are not entirely accurate. Also, the substantial sodium count makes this an occasional indulgence rather than a regular part of my diet.
