I had Calbee's Original Snack Salad Snapea Crisps before and had found the friendly infusion of peas in this snack food to also have a nice crunch and texture (they have also been reviewed here). When I saw the Caesar Flavor Snapea Crisps, I was excited about this healthy, crispy snack but wary of the Caesar flavor. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised.
Similar to the original, these green pea infused rice crisps resembled pea pods and had a nice soft crunch. The added flavoring was not overbearing at all and complemented the natural pea flavor well, however, it didn't really seem similar to actual Caesar dressing to me. I suppose it could be a problem if you're a Caesar dressing aficionado, but this wasn't a big deal to me. I also liked how there was little residue that stuck to my fingers as I ate my snack - I hate messy sticky snack fingers. The bag says that they are baked, and I agreed that they were delicate and tasty.
One serving of Calbee Snack Salad Caesar Flavor Snapea Crisps (1 ounce or 28 grams and about 22 pieces) provides 150 calories, 8 grams of total fat (12% of the daily value), 1 gram of which is saturated. There is also 160 mg sodium (7% of the daily value), 5 grams of protein and 14 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of which are dietary fiber and less than 1 gram of sugar.
A 3.3 ounce bag cost $1.79 at Whole Foods, but if you end up loving these snacks or can't find them in your local grocery store, Amazon.com sells cases of 12 bags for $16.50. The price/weight ratio is higher for these than for other chip-like snacks on the market, but these snapea crisps are certainly worth it for the tasty vegetable infusion.
This snack is nutritionally sound with the inclusion of dietary fiber, protein, and some vitamins too, and they are a satisfactory substitute for other salty, starchy snacks. I would definitely buy these again.
