Vinta Original Crackers Review

Rating:

Vinta Original CrackersI got hooked on the simplicity of stone ground wheat crackers from Trader Joe's, but since there's no TJ's in my current neighborhood, I've had to search for a decent alternative. Based on the box, these Vinta Original Crackers seemed to have a similar grainy foundation and are made with whole grains, so I was really excited for some hearty crackers.

When I opened the plastic sleeve of crackers, I was dismayed to find a lot of broken crackers, which theoretically should have been about the size of a business card. The crackers were indeed studded with different grains, but the cracker itself tasted like a regular, un-hearty cracker with a mildly oily residue. They were still moderately tasty, but nothing really special or even note-worthy.

A serving of 2 Vinta Original Crackers provides 70 calories, 5% and 10% of the daily value for total and saturated fat, low sodium, no fiber, 1 gram of sugars and protein.

An 8.8 ounce box with about 19 servings cost $1.97 at Walmart. These crackers didn't meet my quality standards, but it's possible that I just happened to pick up a box that had been thrown around a lot. Plus, although the label says "Baked with 8 Grains & Seeds" they obviously didn't contribute any fiber. A look at the ingredients list also shows that they use enriched flour (wheat), which is not what I would have expected from the packaging.

I wouldn't buy Vinta Original Crackers again, but would instead go for Back to Nature Organic Stoneground Wheats: Baked Wheat and Flaxseed Crackers.
