I discovered Erin Baker's Breakfast Cookies after seeing various individuals rave about them on food blogs. After trying them myself, I am ready to rave as well because these cookies are amazing! One plus is that they freeze very well, which makes these no preservative added treats last a lifetime (well - actually only for about a year). I take them straight out of the freezer and snap them in half - no muscle men needed as they do not get rock hard - and then warm them up in the microwave for about 30 seconds. The result is a dense, fudgy treat. The texture is phenomenal - literally like a brownie.
The 12 delicious flavor-packed varieties I enjoyably consumed:
Banana Walnut: The fresh banana puree makes for a chewy banana addition to the overall texture of the cookie (similar to homemade banana bread). The walnuts are certainly not the stars of the show, but do make an appearance. For banana lovers, this cookie is an absolute must.
Caramel Apple: The dried apple bits provide a subtle apple taste, which merges with the little pockets of caramel to deliver the perfect level of sweetness in each bite. I do'nt think of a caramel apple while eating it though.
Chocolate Chunk (Vegan): If you like chocolate, look no further. It is chock full of noticeably big chocolate chunks that melt smoothly in your mouth (if you choose to pop it in the microwave first).
Chocolate Chunk Raisin: A beyond-average oatmeal raisin cookie with smooth Belgian chocolate chunks mixed in. Your mouth will thank you!
Double Chocolate Chunk: Whole grains, oatmeal, cocoa and Belgian chocolate chunks together at last.
Fruit and Nut: A warm, gooey combination of plump raisins and chunky walnuts. It has a bit of a trail mix "flavor" to it, if that's possible.
Lemon Berry: This cookie is particularly sticky from what appears to be a fruit jelly oozing out. The lemon flavor melds well with all of the fruity hints and creates a very sweet and refreshing medley in your mouth. Not a personal favorite, but good nonetheless.
Mocha Cappuccino: A noticeable infusion of coffee in a dense, fudgy oatmeal cookie. Coffee and chocolate lovers will rejoice.
Oatmeal Raisin: Deliciously and naturally sweet from the plump juicy raisins mixed throughout (this flavor is on the lower end of the fat count too).
Peanut Butter: Peanut Butter Heaven accompanied by the occasional peanut that brings a sense of natural peanut flavor. Eat it cold and it tastes like PB cookie dough...hello!
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk (Vegan): The famous combo is back with a bang. Vegan or not, these are amazing (no change in the fudgy texture either). They are on the higher end of the fat spectrum, but in a healthy way from the peanut butter and chunks of peanuts (and completely worth it).
Peanut Butter & Jelly: The delicious sandwich combo never falters, even in a cookie.
The ones that I simply could not eat only a half of because they were SO GOOD are: Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk (Vegan), Banana Walnut and Oatmeal Raisin. Honestly, they are all extremely similar with the exact same dense, fudgy, chewy, oatmeal type texture; which never fails to bring a smile to my face.
The nutrition for each intense 3 ounce (85 grams) cookie is anywhere from 290-330 calories, 4-10 grams of fat (6-16% of the RDA), 0-2 grams of saturated fat (3-11% of the RDA), 240-300mg of sodium (10-12% of the RDA), 4-6 grams of fiber (17-23% of the RDA), 17-22 grams of sugar and 6-8 grams of protein. Despite the differences in fat content they all have the exact same base texture, so if you are on a diet go for the lower fat varieties and receive the same delicious treat. Furthermore, each cookie is composed of whole grains, organic sweeteners and other all natural, energy sustaining ingredients.
I am not a big fan of cookies for breakfast, but I would still keep a stash of Erin Baker Breakfast Cookies on hand as an all-natural, travel-friendly and delicious dessert or snack any time of the day. You will be FAR from disappointed. A standard 12-cookie sampler package costs $15.60 + shipping (from BBCookies.com).
Erin Baker sure is one smart "cookie" because I am definitely coming back for much, much more!
