Potato chips are one of life's guilty pleasures. I was over at a friend's house for lunch when she brought out a bag of Herr's Reduced-fat Kettle Cooked Chips. These all natural chips have 25% less fat than regular Herr's Kettle Chips. As someone who loves potato chips, and especially kettle-cooked chips, I eagerly portioned myself out a hefty handful.
The chips look just like any other potato chip I've tried, except noticeably thicker and darker. I popped one into my mouth and crunched down. They're crispy, salty, and delicious with a pure potato flavor accented by salt. They're not greasy, which is a big plus, as these chips are still fried.
A 1 ounce serving of Herr's Reduced Fat Kettle Cooked Chips provides 135 calories, 6 grams of total fat which includes 1.5 grams of saturated fat (9% and 7% of the daily value), 180 mg sodium (8% of the DV), 1 gram of fiber and 2 grams of protein.
The ingredient list is marvelously short: Choice potatoes cooked in vegetable oil and salt.
Lays Reduced Fat Kettle Cooked Chips has a little less saturated fat, 0.5 grams (3% of the daily value), and is just as tasty; and Kettle New York Cheddar with Herbs Kettle Chips has similar nutrition facts, but is more expensive.
A 16 ounce bag of Herr's Reduced Fat Kettle Cooked Chips costs $3.79 (half that of Kettle brand), which is quite reasonable. While I'll have to keep from sitting down with the whole bag at once, I'll definitely indulge in these now and again.
