My family loves to snack, so I am always on the lookout for healthy and comparable alternatives to the average junk food. After scouring the chip isle, I discovered Flat Earth Farmland Cheddar Baked Veggie Crisps. I was a bit reluctant because I have had Veggie Chips before and they were not exactly bad, but did not taste anything like a succulent potato chip.
Flat Earth has definitely found the right way to incorporate veggies into mouthwatering snacks. The product does not look exactly like the picture on the bag because the photo on the bag is extremely computerized, however, that will be the last of your worries after you take a bite. My first reaction was "mmm..." followed by "yum" followed by more munching, crunching and gutteral sounds not immediately recognized by most, but translated to, "these are so good. If anybody tries to put their hands in this bag, they're gonna get it."
The "chips" are coated with a cheesy powder so you get some orange fingers. The texture is thick and hearty like Ruffles, which are a bit thicker than the average potato chip. However, Flat Earth Farmland Cheddar Baked Veggie Crisps do not render a greasy feeling, as other chips usually do. The flavor is just perfectly cheesy and seasoned just right.
Each 1 ounce serving of Flat Earth Farmland Cheddar Baked Veggie Crisps (12 crisps) provides 130 calories, 5 grams of total fat (8% of the daily value), 1 gram of which is saturated fat (6% of the DV), 190 mg of sodium (8% of the DV), 2 grams of protein and 20 grams of carbohydrates which includes 2 grams of fiber (6% of the DV) and 3 grams of sugar. There is also 20% of 12 vitamins and minerals. The ingredient list is fairly long, but contains no partially hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors or preservatives. Furthermore, 12 crisps provide 1/2 serving of real vegetables - but in all honestly, this is just a gimmick.
I paid $2.70 for a 6 ounce bag of Flat Earth Farmland Cheddar Baked Veggie Crisps, which is probably almost 2x the cost of regular potato chips. While there doesn't seem to be much nutritional difference between these and regular chips, these do have less saturated fat and the taste is superb - I would choose these veggie crisps over regular potato chips any day.
