My favorite "cheat" food has got to be pizza. Yummy, gooey, melty goodness...and possible complete destruction to my otherwise healthy eating habits! In order to try to make this habit a bit healthier, I have switched to English muffin pizzas with marinara sauce, but what to do about the most essential ingredient ... cheese? I decided to try out the Weight Watchers Reduced Fat Shredded Mozzarella Cheese to see how it would stand up to my pizza taste test.
(Photo Credit: jspatchwork)This didn't melt as well as regular mozzarella cheese as it was just slightly rubbery, but it tasted pretty darn good! Although I would still rank good old mozzarella higher on my list, for the nutritional trade off, I would definitely recommend the trade off for pizza addicts like myself.
Each 1/3 cup serving of Weight Watchers Reduced Fat Shredded Mozzarella Cheese has about one-third less calories than regular part skim shredded cheese. There are 70 calories, 4 grams of total fat, 2 grams of which is saturated fat (10% of the daily value), 6% of the DV for sodium and 7 grams protein. Each serving also fulfills 20% of your daily calcium needs and are 2 Weight Watchers Points.
I paid $2.53 for an 8 oz. bag of cheese (8 servings). Considering the fact that the generic store brand in the same size goes for $2.50 per package, I would consider this a good buy. I will probably still experiment with other brands of Reduced Fat Mozzarella Cheese, but this makes a perfectly good substituition on home-made pizzas.
